Introduction
This web page lists the names of more than 100 of my Finnish ancestors. We have tried to include the mutiple spellings of their names as we have discovered them. Some of these changes are due to misspellings on various documents, others due to marriage or personal choice, and still others due to conversion from Finnish to English if an individual immigrated to the US (e.g., "Jussi" became "John," "Heikki" became "Henry," etc.).

Some branches of the family tree are quite complex. A few individuals changed their surname when they moved from one Finnish farm to another. One example is Kaisa Greta KAUPPI, who was also known as Kaisa Greta KAUPPI-KONTINEN, then Kaisa Greta KONTINEN, and later known as Katherine KASTEL in the USA. Therefore, she is listed 4 times in the surnames page, once under each surname.

The hyperlink following each name connects the reader with a graphic of that individual's branch of the family tree. Some names are on more than one branch, so multiple links are given. The graphics can be viewed on your computer as a web page. You must scroll to the right and up/down through many of the trees to see all of the branches.

We are working on a way to allow website visitors to print out these trees. Once we have found a way to do this successfully we will post the procedure.

It will produce a map noting each page that discusses the person or place in question. More names and hyperlinks will be added as the family tree grows.

The KASTEL branch of the tree is complex. This branch of the family began in Finland, using the surname KAUPPI, KAUPPI-KONTINEN, KONTINEN, KASTEL, and/or KASTELL at different points in their lifetimes. The name changes are probably due to the different Finnish farms on which the siblings were born. Once most of the siblings moved to the USA they changed their last name to their mother's maiden name, and spelled it KASTEL or KASTELL, depending on the individual. These siblings also changed their first names into the English spelling of the original Finnish. For example, Heikki KAUPPI immigrated to the US and became Henry KASTEL.
